Bismarck is the capital of North Dakota. It is known as the Skyscraper of the Prairie. Tours of the capital grounds are available.

The Bismarck Mandan Visitor Center  is located off I-94 exit 157. The address is 1600 Burnt Boat Drive. Here you will find exhibits, a gift shop and people who can answer your questions about traveling in the area.

Bismarck and Mandan are sister cities.

Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park was the home of General Custer and his wife in 1875. There is an ancient Mandan Indian Village that is thought to date back to 1500 on the grounds. There are exhibits. Tours are available. A visitor's center exhibits artifacts and features information on the history of the area. You can go horseback riding with Custer Trail Rides that take you to some nearby bluffs that overlook the Missouri River. You can catch a trolley in Mandan that travels to and from Fort Lincoln.

Five Nations Arts Depot is located in Mandan on Main Street. Here you will find arts and crafts from Native American Indian artists. These are available for purchase.

North Dakota Heritage Center is located on the Capitol grounds. Here you will find the state archives. It is also the state's history museum. There is a large collection of Indian artifacts housed by the center.

Camp Hancock State Historic Site was the location of a 1872 military camp that was used to protect the Northern Pacific railroad workers from hostile Indians.  It is located in Bismarck at 101 E. Main and First Street. On the grounds you will find an old steam locomotive and a museum which has exhibits on the history of the site.

Former governor's Mansion State Historic Site is located in Bismarck at Avenue B and Fourth Street. Exhibits.
